A look at my drum kit. Here you can find all the information about my setup, from the brands to the smallest details. An overview of my drum set, brand, and visual features. Discover what makes my drum set so special.

The Drumkit

My first drumset was the classic Ludwig Versalite drumkit wich I got as a present from my parents. I had that for about 6 years. In the church and the gospel I used the Mapex Mars Pro series, and with my other projects I played the Sonor 2001series. After a couple of years I switched back for all my projects to Mapex witch I play now for about 20 years .

I am using Soultone cymbals, Gibraltar rack systems and Alesis  electronics. As far as drumheads go: On the toms I use the Evans black chrome Level 360, on the snares the Evans Hydrolic black and on the kicks I use a custom design  Evans E-Mad resonance head and the Evans Emad Onyx batter head.

My drumkit is the Mapex Orion Classic, Birds eye maple, transparant purple, with the 24K golden lugs, a 14"Mapex black panther main snare and a 13"Mapex black panther aluminum side snare.

The shells are 100% north american maple. It has 6 layers of Maple + 1 outer layer of Birdseye Maple. The bass drum has 7 layers. They are pretty thin shells, 5.5 millimeters on toms and 7 on the bass drum, wich gives it the warm, punchy sound.

HOME STUDIO

Of course, we also need to practice between shows; we do this once a month in the studio with the whole band, and besides that, I maintain my technique and playing skills at home.
In my home studio, I use an electronic drumkit in the same configuration as my live kit.

Over the years, I have had various setups that were all tailored for the specific bands. For instance, with Kinda Black, I had a very extensive drum kit with a lot of electronics(triggers, pads, kicks) to get as close as possible to the specific sound of the record.

And now with the Dire Straits I am going quite back to basics again, and I tried to match the setup from their early years of touring, with the origanal drummer Pick Whiters and I definitely succeeded, adding a drum rack system and some electronics.

Despite the fact that the music of Dire Straits is quite pop/rock oriented in terms of drumming, it still requires a fair amount of electronics to match their somewhat theatrical music style in some songs, to capture the full range  wich allows me to be more creative in the musical process of this project. And it has been fun to be creatively engaged in creating a setup that is both effective and visually appealing. at least to me.
